The Associated Press

COLUMBIA, S.C. —

The City of Columbia and the University of South Carolina are teaming up to put on a family-friendly Memorial Day weekend concert that is free and open to the public.

The Palmetto Concert band is holding its 15th annual Memorial Sunday concert. The performance is happening at the Koger Center for the Arts in downtown Columbia.

Organizers say the program includes John Williams' "Summon the Heroes," which us used by NBC as the network's primary musical piece during Olympics coverages. There are also plans for a piece by Giuseppe Verdi, as well as "Armed Forces Salute" and "The Stars and Stripes Forever."
