Channel 10 wins Australian TV rights for Sochi

LAUSANNE, Switzerland —

The International Olympic Committee has awarded the Australian broadcast rights for next year's Sochi Winter Games to Channel 10.

The deal, which was completed Monday, encompasses all media platforms in Australia for the first winter Olympics to be held in Russia.

IOC President Jacques Rogge said in a statement that "Australia is a sports-loving nation with passionate Olympic fans, and therefore we are very pleased to be able to announce this agreement."

Australia is expected to send about 56 athletes in what would be its largest squad at a winter games.
