Celebs to show at Kentucky Derby parties

The Associated Press

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

As Derby weekend kicks into high gear in Louisville, celebrities are coming to Kentucky for several charity parties.

This year is the 25th annual Barnstable Brown Gala on Friday night in Louisville. Country music performer Kix Brooks is the scheduled headliner. The event raises funds for the Barnstable Brown Kentucky Diabetes and Obesity Center at the University of Kentucky.

Also scheduled Friday is the Julep Ball at the KFC Yum Center. The B-52s are on tap to perform. The ball raises funds for the James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville.

U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell and his wife, former labor secretary Elaine Chao, are scheduled to attend the Silks in the Bluegrass Gala on Saturday night in Louisville. The party is a benefit for Operation Open Arms, which provides care for children whose mothers are incarcerated.
