West Liberty screens pro-gas drilling film Monday

The Associated Press

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. —

West Liberty University is hosting a free public screening of the documentary "FrackNation," a film targeting environmental activists concerned about natural gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing.

The screening is 6 p.m. Monday at the Highlands Center. It's sponsored by the school's Center for Economic Philosophy and will be followed by a discussion.

The film follows co-director Phelim McAleer as he challenges environmentalists and they debate the facts as both sides see them.

McAleer claims mainstream media haven't told the full story about drilling and fracking in Appalachia, or focused on people who support it.

"FrackNation" was directed by McAleer, his wife and a colleague, and funded through Kickstarter.

It's at least the third film focused on gas drilling, joining the HBO documentary "Gasland" and the Matt Damon movie "Promised Land."
